We’re here to help you make the most of your health insurance.
You can check if you’re covered for something by logging in to my nib and referring to:
Your Policy document: the details of what your health insurance covers
Your Acceptance certificate: the summary of who your policy covers
If you’re still unsure if you’re covered for something, submit an enquiry below and we’ll be in touch.
For everyday consultations or treatments, like visiting your GP, dental treatment, new glasses or prescriptions, you pay the full cost up-front and then claim it back through my nib or the nib app. If your claim is accepted, we’ll refund your eligible costs (up to your benefit limit and in line with your policy).
For other consultations or treatments, like diagnostic investigations or surgery, we recommend you apply for pre-approval. This will give you certainty about how much of your treatment costs are covered, along with detailing any excess or gap payments (the amount you pay to cover the difference between what the health partner charges and what your policy covers) that you may need to make. First Choice health partners can request pre-approval on your behalf, or you can apply online through my nib.
To see if you’re covered and how much we’ll reimburse you, check your policy and Acceptance certificate (summary of who is covered and any exclusions) by logging in to my nib and selecting "My documents".
If you need an everyday consultation or treatment, like visiting your GP, dental treatment, new glasses or prescriptions, you can see the health partner of your choice; just check your policy first to see if you’re covered.
For other consultations and treatments, like seeing a specialist or surgeon, we recommend you choose a health partner who is in the nib First Choice network, as they can apply for pre-approval on your behalf and 100% of your eligible costs will be covered (up to your benefit limit and in line with your policy).
You can still choose to have treatment by a health partner who is not in the nib First Choice network, but you may have to cover a gap payment (the amount you pay to cover the difference between what the health partner charges and what your policy covers).
If you're not sure which health partner to see, submit an enquiry below and we'll be in touch.
For everyday consultations or treatments, like visiting your GP, dental treatment, new glasses or prescriptions you don’t need a pre-approval - simply check your policy in my nib to see if you're covered.
For other consultations and treatments, like seeing a specialist or surgeon, applying for pre-approval is easy. It’s best to request this before your treatment for peace of mind that your eligible costs will be covered, plus some health partners require a pre-approval letter before proceeding with treatment.
If you choose a surgeon or specialist in our First Choice network they can take care of the paperwork for you and submit a pre-approval request on your behalf. Alternatively, you can easily submit a pre-approval request yourself via my nib:
Fill in the form and attach the requested medical information.
If you’re having treatment within 24 hours, please call us on 0800 123 642 Monday - Friday, 8am to 7pm and Saturday 9am to 1pm.
Making a claim is easy. If you choose to see a First Choice health partner, such as a surgeon or specialist, they can take care of the paperwork for you and claim on your behalf. Alternatively, it’s quick and easy to make a claim yourself, you just need your GST invoices. Scan or take a photo of them, then follow these simple steps:
Don’t worry if you receive more invoices after making your claim. Sometimes your health partners can send invoices at different times. Just submit another claim with any new invoices you receive.
We’ll email and let you know once your pre-approval or claim has been assessed, and/or if we need more information.
During busy times, when things might take a bit longer than expected, we’ll text you with an update. To ensure we can get in touch, it’s a good idea to make sure we have your current mobile phone number and email address. Update your contact details by logging in to my nib and going to "my nib account".
You can update your credit card or contact details by logging in to my nib. Go to "My details" and then "My payment details" to update your credit card information, or " Policy contact details" to update your contact information. If you have more than one policy number, you’ll need to repeat this for each policy number you want to update by selecting each one at the top of the page.
For other payment changes or to update your policy details, submit an enquiry below and we’ll be in touch.
