About this initiative
Research has shown that there are disparities and inequities for Māori in the health sector. That’s why nib have partnered with Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, opens in a new tab to develop Tohu Toi Ora, a tool to help identify health providers supporting culturally positive healthcare experiences for Māori.
As we continue our journey to help address Māori health outcome inequities, we believe this is the right thing to do for our members, for Māori and for all of Aotearoa.
Tohu Toi Ora is an accreditation designed to recognise medical providers who we, together with Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, believe promote a culturally responsive and inclusive health care environment for Māori.
Also called the Toi Ora tick, you will see this mark 
next to the name of accredited providers when you use our Find a Provider directory.
Cultural Competency
Tohu Toi Ora accreditation shows a healthcare provider has been assessed as providing culturally responsive and inclusive experiences for Māori.
National providers
Tohu Toi Ora providers are currently located around Auckland, with plans for expanding the network across Aotearoa. You can locate them using our Find a Provider, opens in a new tab directory.
Tohu Toi Ora & First Choice Network
When you see a Tohu Toi Ora provider who is also part of the nib First Choice Network, if you are an nib or AA Health member, 100% of your eligible costs will be covered, subject to any policy excess, benefit limits and in line with your policy.
